Research:
There has been an understanding by all military services that mission control rooms and simulation systems provide an effective means of conducting combat planning and analyzing for optimal combat scenarios. This project will extend this idea of mission control room or mission rehearsal to the construction field; to develop a digital rehearsal framework for construction project planning. The role of digital simulation planning has not been fully explored for managing construction projects, however, it will help construction stakeholders including all trades, planners, managers, and clients to collaborate efficiently to control the schedules and costs of projects. To address the gap, the project will look at how Building Information Modelling tools (such as Autodesk Navisworks) support the simulation of different “What-if” scheduling and costing scenarios on each work package. The outcome of the project will be an implementation framework of the digital rehearsal for construction planning, indicating the roles and activities relevant to the digital simulation model design and multi-source data integration.
